NATURAL DYES: COLOR COMBINATIONS

Location: On the Internet

Dates: January 31  -  March 13, 2011

Course: # 22652

Credits: 1

Students will build on their basic knowledge of natural dyes to combine dyestuffs in varying proportions and over dye yarn with indigo to create a much larger range of colors. Gradations, where the color changes in increments from one hue to another, will be explored., and creating the entire color wheel will be an option. Students will also learn to shift colors with different modifiers, including pH and iron, to further expand the variety of colors they are able to produce. This class is for those with some natural dye experience – because of this, you may need permission to complete the registration process, especially if your experience comes from outside the college, so please allow time for this.

The Fiber Arts Department of Northern New Mexico College offers many short term weaving classes, as well as full semester length courses. Students can sign up for individual classes, and can also pursue a certificate or an associate’s degree. Tuition is somewhat higher for out-of-state students; however, New Mexico Seniors (65+) take note: tuition discounts are significant! If you’ve never taken a class through Northern before, begin the application process at least 2 weeks before your class begins. If you already have a student ID, sign up at least one week before the first day of class. You should be able to apply (you can choose non-degree status) and enroll online; if you have trouble, please feel free to contact me for help.
